Williams, George R.
George Robert Williams, aged 91, passed away peacefully on February 10 2018 at Legacy House in Ocala, Fl.
He was born November 26, 1926 in Bloomfield, New Jersey. Raised in Bloomfield, and Clifton, NJ during the Great Depression, George was 15 when the United States was attacked at Pearl Harbor, and at age 17 he joined the US Navy. A veteran of World War II, George met his future wife Virginia Hassel before receiving his honorable discharge after the war. In 1948, he and Virginia were married in the Catholic Church in Winthrop, MA. George worked for several years as a door to door milk deliveryman in the greater Boston area before relocating in 1956 with his growing family to the suburbs of Philadephia, PA where he began a 37 year career as a food broker. George was an accomplished salesman, selling to schools, restaurants, and other institutions, and was recognized with several national sales awards.
In 1993 he retired and relocated with Virginia to On Top of the World in Ocala, FL where they lived these past 25 years. George and his wife were devoted volunteers for 20 years at Timber Ridge Rehab, Munro Regional, and Timber Ridge ER, and for two years George served as the president of the same thousand member strong volunteer organization, the Munro Auxiliary.
George enjoyed travel, history, watching Gator football, and especially, his family. He is survived by Virginia Williams, his wife of 69 plus years, and by six children, Paula Sloan, Stephen Williams, Janet Blair, Robert Williams, Daniel Williams, and John Williams. In addition George leaves behind twelve grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Legacy House of Ocala FL.
A public visitation will be held Wednesday February 14, 2018 at Roberts Funeral home 6241 SW State Road 200 Ocala, FL 34476 from 6:00 pm. till 8:00 pm. A funeral mass will be said at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, on Thursday February 15, 2018 at 8:30 am. Followed by final internment at VA National Cemetery on Thursday February 15, 2018 at 1:30 pm.
